Default Monza gas cap?

Hey guys, new guy here again. I'm thoroughly enjoying my new acquired '69. It's in the shop right now getting the stock wheels powder coated and a set of BFG redline tires mounted up. Then, back to my shop to covert it to power breaks. I've been looking around for at C3s out there to get some ideas for winter projects and came across a few 'vettes with a moza style gas cap conversion & I love the vintage road racer look. I'm wondering if anyone on here has one on their car and could fill me in on where I could get my hands on one and how much work I am looking at here to convert over?

I got mine from mustalgia.com. Beautiful piece!
Installation takes about 5 minutes, if that.
It is held on by the screws that held the old fuel lid in place. No drilling required. If I get another C3, I WILL get another one of these for it.

That's it. If it's that simple a mod consider it done. I thought I would have to graft it on the actual tank. Thanks guys!

And, I love that silver-blue color Stavanger. Is that a factory color?

No! It's 1966 mosport green.

Anyone do a real LeMans/Monza cap that attaches to the gas tank? What do you need to do?

The ones in this post are just for decoration since you still use the old gas cap.

Ah, I see the green in that pic. Looked a little more blue in the others. I like it either way.

Clubby99, Given the size of the tank opening, I don't think it would be too tough to make the Mustalgia lid a functioning fuel lid. The top has a spring loaded insert with a rubber seal.

Stavanger, Beautiful Car! What kind of spinners are those? and are those Torque Thrust D's?

The ideal solution and simple install would be if someone could make a one-piece LeMans cap/assembly that would attach to where the existing gas cap attaches. Place the assembly in the filler opening, turn like you would the gas cap, then done. Sealed with an simple install.

Even better would be a two-piece. The lower assembly attaches to where the gas cap attaches. Turn and it is installed. Then the Lemans cover is attached to the lower assembly with hex nuts.

I've seen some of the shelby caps that can be made to replace the gas cap using a rubber hose from the tank to the bottom of the cap. I thought I had book marked it for future reference but can't find it right now. Going to have to just google it different ways until you find what you are looking for.

What do you do in those states that need to pressure test the gas cap?

I just emailed someone who is selling them on the bay - asking if they are a direct fit for our C3's also over $100 cheaper than the Mustalgia ones.

You can connect a fuel line to this LeMans cap. How would you connect to the Corvette gas tank?

Could you modify the existing gas cap by adding a flange? Then connect a 2 inch fuel line to both sides? Then you could restore to original without having to buy/install a new gas tank. Nice if someone could make one. I just don't want a fake gas cap on my car.

Ricer=modification without function for appearance only.

I don't know what the dimensions are between the cap and the filler neck of the tank but what I have seen before is to basically just attach a hose to the filler neck and to the bottom of that type of cap. You should be able to adapt it somehow even if it meant using an old cap somehow. I don't think that there is any reason at all to change out tanks to make one work. Worst case take to a machine shop and let them modify it to fit your need.

Personally, I would prefer it to be a functioning cap but if it wasn't, it wouldn't bother me much. I look at it as just being more decorative than the flat gas door that comes on them and being elevated off of the paint would provide a bit more protection to accidentally scratching the paint..

This is my second try at a cap. 1st one was a dodge charger cap and didn't look to good.

This is not a true cap filler, more of a cosmetic one, tho it is functional.
The other ones are too big for my liking.
$75.00 U.S. from England.
