Although I truly love the sound of my side pipes, I also love listening to some Allman Bros or Stones while I am cruising so I knew I needed to do something so I can actually hear the music if I wanted to. The challenge was I wanted to keep my original deck in and didn't want to do any drilling or modifying of my kick panels or anything. The other challenge was wanting to get sound from speakers in the back that would be behind the convertible top when down. I realized that I don't listen to the radio, and have no need for a CD player (would probably skip all day long anyway) since I have every song I would ever want to listen to on my ipod. What I ended up doing with my buddy was putting an amp (Powerbass XAX 4160FD 4 channel mini amp) in the rear compartment opposite side of the battery (actually put it below the storage compartment on a platform so I did't lose any space at all). Replaced the kick panel speakers with Infinity 4x6 speakers requiring no modification at all. Put two 6x9 infinity speakers in two boxes that fit behind the convertible in the rear and are secured with velcro (no cutting carpet or drilling holes). Put an Ipod connector coming out of the bottom of the shift console that tucks away when I am not using it (this also charges the ipod which required putting in a volume **** that I put below the dash near the wiper override switch). I have to say that the sound is awesome. Totally hear the pipes and the tunes. Had it on the highway with the top down and can hear the music real good. Wasn't cheap but can tell you that the sound is awesome. Amp cost around $200; 6x9s were around $100; 4x6s were $70; speaker boxes were $40; wiring kit, volume **** and ipod adapter were another $100.
nothing wrong with adding tunes to go with the side pipes, and definitely nothing wrong with the Allman Brothers. Blue Sky is one of my all time favorite songs.
I would hope that most of the folks on the C3 forum appreciate the classic older tunes that go so well with these cars. It really brings you back when you are driving an old car and playing some great old songs.
Correct me if I'm wrong, you didn't install a deck, just an Ipod adapter directly to the AMP? Where can I get more info?? Obviously, if I understand right, that's just absolutely awesome!! Thanks for sharing.
I'd like to hear an audio file of the pipes and tunes together once you get everything completed. I honestly don't think I can have tunes in my car. Sweet Thunder is loud - cant even talk to my passenger while shifting - can't imagine how loud the music would have to be to hear it without being heard a mile away.

Will do a video in the next couple of days with audio while I am cruising with tunes.

You got it right - it's awesome. Use the following adapter to connect the ipod which also charges the ipod but you need to install a volume ****. You can do a set up that would connect to your ipod with the headphone jack that will use the ipods volume and won't require a volume **** but it will not charge the ipod.
Bad link for me. I'd love to set something up w/o a head unit I can just plug an MP3 into and use its controls if possible.
Its called an iSimple iS75 Universal iPod/iPhone and MP3 auxiliary input adapter, however, this will allow you to use all ipod controls except the volume which you will have to install a volume ****. If you want to use the volume control on the ipod you should install I believe an RCA headphone jack to your headphone input on your ipod that will connect to the amp (this won't charge your ipod though)
I was sorta in the same boat as you. Got Hooker sidepipes and not sure if it'd be worth it to add tunes. Anyhow, I decided on an Alpine headunit with a custom fiberglass enclosure in the rear.
Allman Brothers eh? Way past my time (I'm only 32 ) 80s rock and electronic club tunes for me
I did pretty much the same thing with mine except I had an fm broadcaster/charger to charge so I got a cable and 2 splitters and went from the ipod to the 4 channel amp, used the gain controls on the amp to adjust front to rear sound. I just use the ipod volume control. Works great for me too! I can also plug my little xm radio into it as well as my old flip phone (pre ipod days), who needs a head unit anymore
