It's a big deal with law enforcement here in Texas that the front plate must be attached to the bumper. So I went for the Antique Tag / no inspection /no front plate...Two local officers at the gas station the other day mentioned that they see me around the hood regularly and was it right for me to have this tag. This tag is for Events, Parades and going to be serviced. I explained that " Every time I put her on the road it's an event that will result in a parade" They laughed and I asked would that keep me out of trouble? They said it works for them! Back The Blue and always wave even if they are in a Dodge!
The antique tag also allows for maintenance related driving. If you say that you are taking it out to keep the battery charged and fluid cycled, then you are OK. I really dont think they give a crap though. They'll probably stop you just to look at it

That's pretty good. Also we rec. you drive it (for ex.-search brakes & posi rear end) & though you don't get to drive it enough you are trying.
I never liked the front plate & only got 1 ticket for no ft. plate & just paid it.
I have got out of a lot by disappearing or stop & tell the truth- they have probably heard it all except that.

Awesome story. My front plate reads 1975... and I have never been pulled over for it. Before that I didnt even have a front bumper cover, so i couldnt mount a plate at all! So how much is insurance with antique tags?
I live in Houston, and most cops in Houston have much bigger problems than to go pulling people over for not having a front plate. On my firebird, I've never been pulled over for it.

I am in Houston also and I got pulled over for no front plate. How embarrassing.
Here I am in a '69 435/427 convertible and I get stopped for this?? I should have been pulled over for doing 120 in a 50 mph or something more manly. I thought only lesser mortals got stopped for that!!
Front plates are required here in Alaska also but I don't run one on the C5 or C3 and have no problems. Now on my Super Duty I have been ticketed, go figure. (maybe it's the 13" lift and 42" tires lol)
Its the law here in Illinois, as is no tinted plate covers (actually, no clear covers either).
They dont generally stop for that as a primary offense... as they said in the Police Academy, "it's an excuse to get in the car" when needed.
I have been a cop for 17 years. It doesn't matter if they pulled you over for it. The question is did you get a ticket for it? If you get stopped for a license plate either they think you are up to no good or they may have just wanted to check the car out up close. I have only seen someone who got a ticket for it because they talked their way into the ticket.
