Default Detent Cable

Hi,

I just put a new Throttle Cable/Detent Cable bracket on my 79. The PO had some bastardized setup that would not work right with my the Holley SA I put on. I ordered a bracket that supposedly was for my Vette but, the Detent Cable bracket is too far back (see pic) it is adjusted all the way forward and is still more then 2" too far back. Is there any other adjustment or can I put some kind of cable extension on the cable? Would it just be easier to make a extension piece for the bracket?

On my 77 there is a release tab on the plastic piece which attaches to a bracket on the intake manifold. To adjust, you pop up the release, open the throttle to WOT, then push the release tab back in, then close the throttle. If the detent cable isn't adjusted properly it will lower your WOT shift points.

So the cable stops the travel of the throttle on the carb? I would compare the WOT position on your carb vs a Qjet. If your carb goes beyond the travel of the Qjet then that could be the problem.
