There's a title and temp tag place on site to assist in transactions. You take the title and bill of sale there and get temporary PA plates so you can transport the vehicle.
It's located right in the middle of the show field...very convenient.
Some people bring a trailer, others hire an auto transporter, and some take a chance by driving out with just a title.
I believe that there is a Notary in the car corral, as well as PA temporary tag dealer.
So how would this work for someone like me (a NJ resident). I will most likely go with cash, and would want to drive it back that same day...but how would I do that without plates? I doubt I can get temp PA plates since I'm from NJ. And I rather not have to make the 3hr trip again after getting NJ plates and meeting up with the seller the following day....
You should check with Carlisle (www.carlisleevents.com), but I'm sure that you can use a PA temporary tag to transport a vehicle. Most states have transit temp tags, for when an out of state resident buys a car from an in state dealer.
I think you may need proof of insurance with you, to transfer ownership on the grounds, so you should check with your agent on how to handle it.
Call the Fairgrounds (you can get their phone number from the above website) and ask them exactly how it's done, and what's needed. You could also post a question under the National Section of the Events & Regional portion of the Corvette Forum. Lance Miller is often on there answering questions about, and promoting Carlisle. Though it would probably be a lot quicker and easier to just give them a call, the Carlisle office staff are always very helpful.
People have been buying and selling cars at Carlisle Events since 1974, so I'm sure they've got it pretty well worked out.
Wondering if sellers would accept bank cashier's checks made payable
to yourself and endorsed over to the seller at the time of the purchase?
If so this would be a safe method of carrying funds. Cashier's checks
in various demoninations could be purchased from your bank and used
in the combination needed to arrive at the dollar amount of the purchase.
Whatever checks are not used can be deposited at your bank
when you return home or a stop payment placed on them if they
are lost.

You can get a tag that is only good for 5 or 10 days. Just long enough to get it home and do paperwork in your home state. Cost is very minimal. I just bought my first 'Vette, an '81, in Delaware in May and got a 5 day tag, allowing me to drive it home to PA that same day. Good Luck, I'll be in Carlisle looking for a few things myself.
I just started a new job and unfortunately don't want to push my luck and request Thursday AND Friday off.
Speaking from experience...while looking for a purchase, would it be better for me to be there Thursday as soon as everyone gets in or Friday (due to Thursday's late opening and maybe not everyone making it that day)?
I also assume I may need to be going back Sat or Sun as well....
