Have a 1974 corvette with a L82 350-Ci that has 250 horses
wonder what the times would be
I also want to know the best way to gain more horsepower for
under 500 dollars

I just tested my L48 79 basically stock car, dunno about quarter mile but 0-60MPH was 7.2 seconds which is about what it was in 1979 according to all I have read, I'm happy with that, what I'd like is better MPG.
As for $500 for more HP, well, buy 5 $100 horses is my only suggestion...... *sorry*

More air in & out = more HP
Under $500...Hmmmm.... Well, the old saw is: "Speed cost money. How fast do you want to go?"
Are your going to get this all for under $500? No way. And, having built and rebuilt many a motor, I have found I get more bang for the buck by setting a goal for the build and selecting the stuff to get there and (try to) avoid my natural urge to over-engineering/build everything.
Oh! And, don't fall for all those "miracle" gimmics, e.g. the likes of the "Tornado"
If you care to set a hp goal and state how you're going to use the car, and post it here, there's some really sharp dudes here to help you get there relaibly with the least amount of $$. (And it will be tried and true - read: no gimmics!)
P.
- Low restriction air filter (K&N?)
- Cold air inletting is a good thing (denser air, doancha know)
- low restriction cat(s)
- true dual exhaust (if it is smog legal where you live)
- cam and lifters upgrade...
- LT headers
- Yada, yada, yada...

Around 1980, I had a 74 L-82 with a 4 speed and a 3:70 rear gear. All stock, the car ran high 14's.

Easiest way to gain BIG hp for <$500 is nitrous, but you probably don't want to go that route.
Best bang in your range are cam and/or headers (and maybe not even headers anymore).
Of course you could buy a moto-tool and a bunch of sandpaper rolls and pocket port and blend your own heads for next to nothing and this would be a major benefit.
