Default Mystery Engine Numbers

Looked at a 78 parts car today and the engine block had the number 90803C where the three letter suffix should be. Anybody ever see a number like this one ? Has a smaller water pump than my 77 sbc. Could this be a pontiac engine ?

does the date code on the block line up with the build date. could have been rebuilt in the past and the machine shop could have stamped it so they could track it

Didn't look at the build date just wanted the three letter prefix to tell me if it were a L48 / L82 etc.

I think you mean 'suffix' and can pretty well forget using the pad to figure out what the engine is. Most likely a rebuilders stamp.

No such thing as a 3 letter prefix.

Probably but the 0010 block was also built as a 327 in 1968.

Bought the car last week. Pulled the engine and found a Jasper sticker under the grease
