Default 1982 Radio upgrade

I am looking for a radio shop that could upgrade the radio from my 1982 CE with todays technology while keeping the exterior unchanged! Any suggestions?

Thanks
P.

What is your budget? Most online vette vendors sell these, but are like 200-300ish.

Depends on how unchanged you want your interior. There are alot of installers out there who can carefully trim your gauge console to accomodate the newer after market radio console units....I just did it to accomodate a radio/CD/Ipod unit that had Bluetooth capabilities for my phone. Came out great. However, if you do not want to chance cutting up your console, just check out the vendors on this forum who have radios that look more 1980ish that have the newer technology concealed inside. Just depends how much you want to spend and how much you want to alter your console. Good luck-Pete

I was of that original mindset and installed a Custom Autosound unit to maintain the original look...but have never been happy with it.

I'm now thinking of going the route that Pete (above) and others have taken. By the way, you'll also need to upgrade your speakers !

I'd like to upgrade with one of those that you can plug a mp3 player into. It sure isn't the days of $35 radios any more though.

if you check the ads in hemmings motor news, you will find radio techs that will rework your original radio, leaving the original appearance, but add completely modern innards, and any other bells and whistles you might want (it all can be done for a price). if that is what you want. if you don't care about the appearance check with custom auto sound or any of the major corvette parts suppliers and most have a selection of new radios that will fit into the console without any alterations.

Thanks Guys. I want to keep the original look and looking for a company that will re-gut my existing radio with new technology. I will try Hemings news.

I may be one of the few guys that pulled an aftermarket radio and dug around the salvage yard to find an origional. And it was $35 !
