Default Carburetor options...

I advertised for some suggestions for some carb rebuild places and got some great references, thanks.

My service replacement carb is not getting the job done, so I bought a correct dated #207 DA '69 carb core for $200. I am getting estimates of $500 or so plus plating on it!!!

I found a beautiful correct unit all done. $995.

Frankly, these options are making me a little ill. I'm getting suggestions of: buy a Holley Q jet replacement, buy a generic (wrong) carb for half the restored price and "you are nuts for looking at those prices."

I can get the carb rebuilt locally but I still would have to get bad parts on it plated.

Are all the carb restoration prices like this?

Well, I'm one of those people who think you are nuts to pay that kind of money for that. However, if it's what you want, then it's what you want, crazy or not. And the prices you have mentioned are a little on the high side, but not by much, a well restored carb is gonna be pricey. See ya,

Scott

Frankly, since you're interested in the correct stuff, I would just use a locally rebuilt carb interim and send the correct one to Ruggles. You will get all the correct ethanol compliant parts which will make a world of difference. I think his price is pretty reasonable, unless it's changed recently. There's a reason why he has such a long lead time.

$995 is a lot, but for a correct hard to find carb restored to show condition it is what it is. For a car restored to the condition yours is in I'd go for it.

Plus you can sell the core and the carb you presently have to defray some of the cost.

Last I heard Cliff Ruggles has a roughly 1 year backlog. I put my name on a list last spring, don't expect to hear anything until next winter.
May well be worth the wait if you have something to use in the mean time.
