Compartment Liner Install Question
Since joining the ranks as a proud C3 owner 54 weeks ago, I have learned in the process of repairing these old gals, there is more than meets the eye. While on the surface a small repair job sounds simple in logic,it realistically requires a lot of prep work by disassembling everything around the part that needs to be replaced/repair. It's like performing knee surgery on Joe Namath 40 years ago - make a 18" incision in the leg, cut thru layers of dermis and muscle just to repair a small meniscus tear in the knee. A procedure that took hours to perform and months to recover from, even though the actual damage was tiny. Now you can repair even a serious meniscus tear orthroscopicly (sp?) and walk out of surgery an hour later. Anyway I bought a center compartment liner for my 68. Looking at the AIM (below), it looks like I have to pull back the carpet, remove the compartment frame and hinge assembly just to insert this $20 cardboard shoe box, then reassemble. Is this really the only way to install?

Just try to lift out, if it comes out without exerting force, no problem. If you do have to take the assembly apart, be careuful, the plastic frame for the doors breaks easily. The replacement frames look different than original.
