Hey guys, I was cleaning the engine and got to the egr valve and it is so crusty that I thought just get a new one but when I saw the prices . 50- 75 bucks!!! Do I need this ? A friend said they sell a plate to close it off and I noticed that I don't see one on some of the car pics here on the forum.
thanks vince

Reason: misspelling
I went to one in St.Anne Il. last year but this summer its been sitting while I do some work on it. Are you local ? and it's pretty much crusty all over. I had it all taped off and was ready to blast it and was afraid that I would get grit in it and thats when one of the guys said that he put a plate over his. So I thought I would ask, and while I'm asking I also was cleaning my valve covers and noticed cracks on the inside and you can see them from the outside to. They are aluminum , are they junk or usable? thanks vince
Yeah, I'm actually more Peotone than Beecher, right down rt 50.
Were 77 valve covers the black painted aluminum ones? That's why they started painting them, to cover up the inferior casting quality.
If the cracks actually do go all the way through, then I'd scrap em.
I don't think I'd bother trying to polish them if the casting are that rough.
