Default Fair price for 70-72 Eggcrates?

As part of my 1972 coupe overhaul, I'm having the body shop swap out the front clip for a 68/69 style version with the gills instead of the eggcrates.
The bodyshop made a comment that they'd be interested in taking the eggcrates off my hands once the swap is complete.
What would a fair price be for the eggcrate inserts - whether to the bodyshop or if I was to sell them on here?

I have seen them go for $50 to $150 a piece.

The side marker lights won't match the rears in size and shape either.

Well some people like the look of the 69 front end more than the 72. Not everyone does an NCRS restoration.

If it were me, I'd keep the egg crates. Maybe not keep them on the car..but keep them somewhere. That way if you ever sell the car and someone utters that terrible phrase, "that's not original," you can reach into a cubbyhole and say, "nope. But these are". That raises the value enough IMHO to be worth keeping the parts even if you don't keep them on the car.

If the car has 69 fenders I don't think the keeping the egg crates are going to add any value to the car.

That's true. I'd keep the fenders too... But that's just me...

If they are nice originals you should be able to get at least $150 each. I thought about replacing mine with the gills. I was just going to splice them in, not do the entire fender. Are you doing the chrome inserts in the gills?

you're also going to have flaired fender lips on the back but not on the front. Didn't know if you were aware of that as well.

That is what makes America so great. You can do whatever you want.

Or you can be like so many FIREBIRD owners and put a Chevy engine in it. If a CHIEF motor was so good, this would not happen, correct?

Default 69 gills in my 72 fenders

If you want the 68-69 gills, but don't want to go through the expense of re-doing your entire front end, then I have the solution.

Your "before" car was stunningly beautiful.

I like your after look too. Not as sure about the look in your avatar. Are you a sponsored car? Are those companies paying you? Or do you just like the look of stickers?

That's me. I had an 81 Firebird with a 400 small block out of a 69 Chevelle. Fast as hell. And nothing original. Heavily modified car. Loved it!

But I didn't start with a collectable car. I started with a stock Firebird that had a 286 V6. Horsepower of a lawnmower. With the torque to boot. And utterly worthless.

Had I had a Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am I'd never have done so many mods. I'd have sold the higher-value Trans Am and bought a Firebird and used the difference to help finance the mods. Or just bought the cheaper Firebird right off the bar - as I did.

With my Vette, I'm going to eventually pull the engine and go rat-rod, but I'll keep it looking stock and I'll keep the original engine - as well as whatever else I replace.

To me - and this is just me and my dumbass opinion - I like knowing my car is worth something, so even when I mod it I'll preserve that 'original' value by keeping the original parts...

Just me - you do whatever you want. It's your car! Land of the Free afterall!

Those were the sponsors of the 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour. This paint job was a race car tribute just for the tour. It is going to be stripped back down and re-done this fall. The avatar pic is one of the Hot Rod magazine guys interviewing me for a magazine layout on the 2011 Power Tour. I am not sure if they will put the car in the magazine this year or not. I made it in the magazine last year with the previous paint job. I haven't quite decided on the next paint job, but whatever I choose, will be it's final one.

Very nifty side vent solution. I love the stickers BTW. Makes it very racy looking.
