I recently got a copy of my build sheet and I was suprised to see that I have 2:87 gears in my 82(code HK1). All I have read says the 2:87's were in the Collectors edition only and all others had 2:72's. (I do not have a CE)
Does anyone know if the higher gears part of the Gymkhana suspension?
I know its not a big difference, I'm just trying to get to know the ins and outs of my car. I'm sure there is a reason and I'm hoping someone in the forum may know.
Final drive ratio: 2.72:1 (except 2.87:1 with aluminum wheels)
So if yours came with aluminuim wheels - you got the 2.87s
This is correct. 1982 Corvettes with standard rally wheels, came with a 2:72 rear gear, while cars ordered with the optional aluminum wheels got the 2:87 gear. There were no optional rear gear ratios available in 82.
FE7 Gymkhana Suspension included different springs (including a steel rear spring in place of the fiberglass one), shocks, a rear sway bar and a bigger front bar. Gymkhana had no bearing on the gear ratio used.

I did not know that. Learned something today. Thanks, guys.
I'm guessing the reduced weight of the aluminum wheels could be involved?
