Old style - similar to the ones some of us saw as kids at the drag strips in the late 60's on the C1 and C2's. You know the kind - like on the Milner 32 - standard rim chromed. Maybe reversed. I just dont recall seeing them on the 68-72 cars on the street
I dont know why the popcorn. it must be a terribly stupid question or something controversial??

Sorry, but here's another vote. You don't see them on C3's because they were already pretty much outdated, and the aftermarket wheel industry had started finding it's footing. IMHO there are several aftermarket alloy offerings from the C3 era itself which do look .
As for the popcorn, that's the emoticon for a subscribed viewer who is indicating they're watching to see what comes of the thread.

Yes & the later Corvette alloy wheels. To me Corvettes should have alloy wheels!

You might find this interesting. I put chrome reverse for clearance on a 57 one time because adding ball joint spacers made the upper a-arms rub the tires.
You don't see old school chrome reverse wheels on those cars because it would look horrible.
I have an unnatural love for old school Cragar S/S chrome wheels and I've never been able to use them either because they dont really look very good on Corvettes. I even thought Id buy a new set for my black '69 just as a "change of pace" option, but, unfortunately, I think not.
I saw a set of 80-82 alloy wheels chromed and put on an early C3 recently and they looked gorgeous. Stock looking, but brighter. Nice.

Believe it or not, just night before last I was actually looking at clearance for extended upper ball joints myself.

thanks for the explanation of the emoticon explanation.
By 71 or 72 all I could think of for aftermarket wheels that I saw were some 5 spokes and slotted dish wheels on the C3's to date. Am I remembering correctly? I dont remember chrome wheels on these cars and your explanation makes sense as to why

Back in the seventies Cragar S/S where the mags to have anything else was a substitute. I had a set of chrome reverse on a 53 ford that I had because I could not afford the Cragars
