Another air cleaner question
Sorry if this answer has been posted elsewhere but I did search and couldn't find my situation. Mine is a '79 L82 with the stock intake and the original q-jet with stock air cleaner. I want to replace the air cleaner with an open sided chrome one with 3" filter but not sure with all the original parts how much of a drop base do I need? Any thoughts?

I did the same. Can't remember what drop base I got. From what I read the snorkel gives you 5hp. Remember though thats at 5500 rpms. I can't feel any difference. If you want a chrome drop , go ahead.

i went the other way from a moroso drop base open element air filter to the dual snorkle air filter and it made a world of difference in performance, but back to your original question... i had to use an insert that i cut for the choke horn area so it would fit, let me see if i have any measurements on the drop base unit.
