Default Heater core by pass

Been watching the threads talking about putting a shut off valve in the heater hose to reduce heat in the cabin. I am assuming the people who decide to do this do it because they still want to be able to use the heat with it open and want a cool cabin with it closed. I do not use my heat ever and my main concern was not knowing how old my heater core is I was worried that on some nice stress reducing cruise I would look over to the passenger side footwell to see a gusher of anti freeze. So I decided to just go into Napa and get a 3/4 - 5/!8 hose fitting and loop my heater hose. Made nice end caps to go over the heater core tubes to keep the critters out in case I ever want to hook it back up. Worked great and cost $3 bucks. So if you don't need to ever use your heat just loop the hoses or plug off the manifold and water pump and be done with it.

Good job, I also did mine a few years ago. The car is put away for the winter and during summer use it never sees the rain.

I carry one of those fittings and a couple clamps in case of a heater core leak or a hose springing a leak but on cool fall nights in Pa. the heater is nice to have working.
