Hello guys. Just picked up this vette that was in storage since 1985. Original owner was in Vietnam and passed away from agent orange in 1984. Car is cleaned up and on the road now. Have a question. Where is the turn signal flasher located on a 72 vette? Thanks

 

Flasher is in the fuse box under the drivers side dash.

You do know you dont get to say you have a Motion Corvette and not provide pictures, right?

 

Thanks for the reply. I changed that one out, but am told that is for the 4 way hazard lights only? I was told there is another one somewhere lurking under the dash? I am not computer savvy on posting pics. If I could email someone some pics to post that would be great. Quite a story with this one. Original owner was a parapalegic. Shot in the back in the war. He bought this car shortly afterwards. Imagine driving a 4:88 rear 600plus HP ZLX engine, using hand controls! 28k original mile Ontario Orange survivor.

I think the 72 has the flasher relay behind the pouch on the pass side.

 

 

if you can change a flasher, you can post pics on this site. No savvy necessary. get a Photobucket account, upload your pics there for free, copy the IMG link and paste it into a post and you have pictures.

I'll send you step by step instructions.

Yes, this is the vette that was posted on the sYc site for sale. I jumped all over it and am glad I did. Basically an untouched example that is today as it left Motion. Not a restored car. I had the original rims polished, and put new tires on it, and I do have the original mint tires. The car somehow did not get any moisture in its tomb. It is in remarkable shape. Nothing even leaks! I have put only about 20 miles on it so far, as I am awaiting my 55 gallon drum of 110 octane fuel. I figure that will get me about 200 miles of fun. Fully documented beyond belief. I will have it at the MCACN in Chicago in November. Any Midwest vette shows anyone can recommend?

The original owner sounded like he was quite a guy. He also had a stripe delete 70 SS Chevelle, and a Camaro. His sister told me he took the cars out and took target practice, from the car! I also have a pic of him in the Chevelle shooting. He was a sharp shooter in the Military. I smile every time I see the Leather holster that is screwed to the back of the seat.

Very cool and interesting story. Beautiful looking Vette and love the Ontario Orange!!! Rims are outdated but boy they look good on the car even today!! They also keep with the historical significance of the story that goes with the Vette.

 

Thanks for the comments. The family was in tears over the video and cleaned up pics of the car. This guy certainly made a impact on them in his short life. Any guy in 70-72 that had a Camaro, Corvette, and a Chevelle, at the same time, had to be COOL.

I think the Ansen Sprint wheels actually cleaned up better than new. Guy in IL did them. Place called California Polishing. They did my Nickey Camaro, and this BM Vette, and would highly recommend them. Just a 1-3 day turnaround! 80-100$ per rim.

Would you be willing to share some history of the car? How long was it in storage? How did you come to own it? What ever happened to the Chevelle and Camaro that the original owner also had?

 

Thanks 1996Z15! In storage since about April 1985. Original owner never raced it on a track, just on the street. He had it modified immediately with hand controls for brake / accelerator. Never left the town he lived in in KY. Never seen rain or snow. Original owner died in June of 84 and car was left to his parents. They both passed on and it was left to the niece, whom I purchased it from. I am assuming she was left the car since it was stored in her garage that was attached to her condo in KY. Car never left KY. I have correspondence from June of 71, up until Dec 71 when he finally ordered the car. Much different then as you had to write letters and await a lettered reply. There is about 5 letters to Motion, and their responses, a written and typed work order, letters to the original owner, and my favorite: The actual work order that the owner filled out to order the car. He had to put 2k down, 4k when the motor was dropped in ( 454 ZLX engine with aluminum heads ) and $5076.00 when picked up. $11,076.00 total. Has a single traction bar, air bags, 4:88 to 3:42 Hone-O-Drive, sidepipes/headers, electric fuel pump, Mallory dual point dist./coil, etc. etc. etc. In one of the letter Joel Rosen states the car will be in the 10 second area!

I asked about the camaro / chevelle as the Chevelle looked like it had a Nickey sticker in the quarter glass, but could be a hooker headers decal. Anyway, the sister of the original owner says she doesn't know but will try and find out from his friends. She kicks herself over not taking the Camaro.

Interesting that they did not use a "filler panel" on the rear exhaust when adding the sidepipes and actually filled and used the seams. Nice detail.

What a treasure! I bet the original owner would be happy that someone is once again giving some love to his baby. 11 grand in 72 would by a decent house; he had to be a real enthusiast to lay out that money for a car. I really feel a sense of loss when I hear of a soldier like this one dying from the war many years later. We lost so many great guys in Vietnam; make sure you let any living veterans know that we are grateful for their duty.
