Should I have 12 V coming from the wire on the distributer marked "tach"? I took my distributer cap off to check something and now my tach does not work. The tach needle gose to10 when the car is shut off and goes to 0 when the car is started. I eliminated the filter just to see if it would work, but does not. TIA
Have you checked to ensure you have the tach terminal plugged in well on the distributor. Mine gets loose periodically.
I have removed the wire several times to make sure its attached well. I even sprayed some contact cleaner on both the wire and the terminal it plugs into. Do you have 12V at the terminal on the distributor? If I am supposed to have 12 V there and do not then I know its something inside the cap. Oh, and by the way, thank you.
The signal wire should never have 12 volts on it.. you might check the coil in the distributor cap and see if the terminals are touching.. or the coil may be defective.
