So since my accident.....scratch that....since I saw pictures of my car after my accident...I have done nothing but search for a replacement...but anyway that's another story for another day...
Someone sent me pictures of their engine bay and for some reason I can't pin point it but I know something is off...a little help please
I might also add that this same person very much so believes that they have an L-82 original #'s matching 1981(but thats another thread too)
The engine looks to be a stock 1981 L-81, with the forward and right side cold air ducts, and the accordion hoses from the ducts to the air cleaner, removed. The wiper blades are pretty funky too.
The interior looks OEM, except for the aftermarket, CD radio installed in the center cluster.
My guess is that they were a pain to mess with. The plastic clips seemed like they shrank and were hard to re-attach after messing with the carb, which was hardly adjustable anyway.
It is odd that everything else looks original though.
The originals can get ratty looking with age. Some folks remove them on the excuse it makes the air cleaner can easier to remove and install.
Looks like possibly a nice 81. It is, of course, not an L-82 car. Just because the L-81 engine code happened to be the same as the 80 L-82 code, does not make it an L-82. You can easily find an 81 owner who is certain his/her car is an L-82 because the 6 is in the VIN.
If it is an '81 it is missing the entire duct assembly. There is supposed to be a plastic duct that that accordion hoses connect to sitting above the radiator. See the pictures below of my '81. The alternator also looks like it is not sitting correctly in relationship to the engine but it could just be the angle of the picture.

According to the Black Book and Corvette C-3 Buyer's Guide, there is no L-82 option for an 81. The base 190 hp, L-81 engine was certified legal for all 50 states.
The air cleaner duct parts & distributor shield are all parts you can easily get, or the owner may have them sitting in the garage.
The top alternator bolt isn't correct, and those ground wires shouldn't connect there.
the bolt is too long. and for sure it is not an L82 the last L-82 option was in 80.
The finned magnesium valve covers were used on the L-81 to reduce weight.
That air cleaner base is also only on the L-81 with the little hose that goes to the charcoal canister.
There is also a little loop that goes on the back of the alternator to hold the hoses that go to the charcoal canister missing. but it is a nice car.
question for Hardaway....
what is the small plastic reservoir for that is next to the master cylinder......???

Do you know where I can get those clips on the distributor cover for the cable tie downs. I cannot find them anywhere and don't really know what they're called.
