I would like to know what type of motor oil is recommended for a 1980 Corvette. Thanks

Reason: Thought I asked for motor, but I guess the wording was confussing. Oh and by the way, female and new at this, Thanks everyon
Have you checked the back of the owners manual? Typically it would be a gear oil with a weight of 75w90 or so.
I see, without a comma, after the word Corvette, the sentence can be interpreted 2 ways. Either engine oil or manual transmission oil! I assumed the word motor was a mistake.
Would have been nice if the OP came back and clarified.
Just trying to help the guy out, it is obvious that there was some confusion in the OP's question.
But since you seem to know what exactly he was asking, why did'nt you respond accordingly, or do you just enjoy being a ?

Engine oil is usually not determined by transmission type. Owner's manual will list the oil preferred by the GM engineers in 1980. You should be able to find a modern day equivalent.

Don't put motor oil in a manual transmission. Or an automatic transmission. Or the radiator, power steering pump, glove compartment, etc. It's just for your engine. For a manual transmission, use what your shop manual says to use. If you don't have a shop manual, you should get one. if you don't want to get one, then just pour some 10w40 in your tranny and don't worry about it.

DUH.. because I have no idea what motor oil a 1980 takes, and I didn't want him to put gear oil in his engine.

Some days we have way to much fun. I have pondered this question myself a few times. I don't have an answer. Depends if trans fluid, rear gear oil, or engine oil?
I thought that motor and engine were the same, but I will be as clear as I can in the future. Thanks everyone. My next question is what fluid holder is located under or near the alternator. I guess you can tell, I dont have the owners manual. Maybe it would be good if someone could tell me where the various fluid containers, holders or whatever we call them are located. i.e., transmission, power steering, brake, etc. Thanks
Power steering fluid reservoir is near the alternator and down.
Transmission, car has to be on lift and plug removed, should be level with bottom of hole.
Brake is on drivers side, near firewall, held down by 2 large clips or rings.

Many people use the terms interchangeably even though they are not. Engine is the correct term but but the magazine is called 'Motor Trend' and not 'Engine Trend'.

Get an owners manual, they're not expensive.
OK I'm going to bite, whats the difference between motor and engine ?
I've been pouring motor oil in that hole in my valve cover for years.
