Default Core Support for 71

Hi

I ordered a new 26.5" core support to replace the one that was rusted in my 71 Vette. (350 A/C copper radiator)

I did some measurements of the old vs new core and found the that lower saddles were offset about a quarter of an inch closer to the passenger side.

Also the lower mount nuts were also offset by about 1/4".

After trial fitting it I found that it fitted well after a little panel beating of the outer skin in a few of the edges .

But one of the 5 mounting nuts was out by about 1/8" so to get a bolt into it I had to elongate the hole.

I used no shims as it mounted up fairly tight to start off.

Here is what it looks like in the car.

Now the drivers side guard had been repaired at some time in its life so possibly it is out a bit as well but the old one lined up fine.

Is it normal for these reproduction parts to be out like this.

I didn't have a great introduction to Coffman either in this thread. Just because it's made in america doesn't mean a damn thing.

Had a read of your thread. thanks

Its sad that parts can be so far out. Obviously Tolerances are fairly loose.

The core support looks very good generally but.

. The lower mount nuts are 1/4" offset - Will need to enlarge the hole in lower frame
. One of the side mount nuts is 1/4" too high - Needed to modify the hole in the guard bracket to get it to fit.

Also just noticed as you mentioned the core support is not drilled for any of the seals.

Did you just rely on the double sided tape for the seals between the the core and the radiator. ?

Also what about the hood seal, did you glue that on or drill for clips. ?

Ah you find my other thread about the seals, I was going to mention that in my previous reply. Yes, the PIF holes were not there like I thought they should have been, but again I had an 18" support before with the PIF and switched to the 26". So while I didn't have a stock 26" to compare to, everything I looked at led me to believe that there should have been PIF holes in it. Maybe someone else can chime in on that one. So I just relied on the doublesided tape and the pressure from the radiator to keep it in place, no problems so far.

As for the hood seal, I just used the same weatherstrip glue when I put it on.
