hi,
i had fitted my t-top bracket to my '72 rack and used it with great success ovet the weekend.
we had a 1800+ cars on a classic car (1956-1977 era) run of about 70km (43mile)
i had so many people stumped as to what it / they was, spoiler, suit case even a table.
so can someone out there tell me the story of them, what years where they for originally etc.
where they an over the shelf item etc.
They turn up occasionally and I actually saw a couple of sets at Carlisle this year. The prices were not bad either. A few years back they seemed to be selling for stupid money.
The carriers were offered over the counter as a accessory item from GM. While they were only available with the cars in 1977, the old GM parts book listing showed them as 1976-1977.
The carriers when sold by GM also came with a few special parts "Screw on ****" for installation of the carrier on a pre 1977 rack without the ****. The kits also came with a set of clear rubber tubes to keep the tops from rubbing on the luggage rack. These two items do not come with the reproduction carriers.
