Default 82 CE Radio Antenna Replacement

Ok, So my antenna wouldn't go up or down but i could hear the motor running and making a horrible noise. I had it repaired at my local Corvette Restoration Specialist and put in a reproduction antenna...$463.00 Does this sounds right!!!

You got raped. I bought a factory replacement (not a repro) for my 82 for a fourth of that and installed it myself. I think you paid Collector Edition tax (the power antennas are the same for any 82).

Got to be kidding. I have replaced mine twice myself and I am far from a mechanic or electrical person. Buy one at local parts store and install it yourself for less than $100. Yes, you got screwed royally.

It is a bit of work though....they had to remove a couple of screws and drop it down....then lift the new one into place

And lets not forget the $50 part.

Do they still have the old original one?

I pulled mine out of a 1994 Cadillac at the scappers. Looks identical. I used the crome trim ring from a 1996 Mercury Sable.

Is your butt still sore?

???Did you have your original antenna repaired and reinstalled, or was it replaced by the shop with a new repro antenna???

At about $200 for a new repro antenna and 2-3 hours to replace it at $85-$100 an hour (the going rate for Corvette shops in my area), I can see how a shop would charge $463.00.

To pull the antenna, repair the motor with the $30 replacement shaft and cable kit, and then replace the antenna; $463 seems a bit strong.

Mine did the same thing the first time I tried it out, the motor would run but no antenna up and down, replaced the mast for $30.00, got it off of ebay, wasn't hard to do.

Can the antenna be manually pushed down and pulled up as a temporary fix?
