I got a set of "76-79 C3 Aluminum Wheel Set" from Corvette America for my 79. The hub center is 70.3 mm and the wheels center is like 2 mm wider and can move freely. Do exist the way to center the wheel with a centric hub? Or are those wheels made for another model?
Thanks
Alex
Factory alloy wheels are in fact hub-centric, as are the steel rally wheels. They are not extremely tight, but then they shouldn't be loose either if that is what the OP is saying. The lug nuts for the alloy wheels are somewhat special and do help align the wheel to the studs by filling the gap between the diameter of the hole and the diameter of the stud. Correct Corvette lug nuts (as above) for these wheels also have a taper at the end of the thread to mate with the tapered seat of the steel rally wheel, on the spare tire.
If the OP is talking about a loose fitting center cap, I concur with Easy Mike, a little dab of clear silicone will help a lot to keep the caps in place.
Gusto is on the money! Aluminum wheels require those special lug nuts,I looked all over for aftermarket replacements due to the crappy chrome plating.Gave up and just had a set chromed. Was a few dollars but results were great! Also used a little silicone to hold the caps.[IMG][/IMG] Looks great with new vs old lug nuts...
