I know what you mean, I normally only drive my 81 a few days a week but wherever I go with it I always here someone saying "nice car!"
It seems I get more compliments on the 81 vs my newer 1998 and 2009and it's not even in top flight condition.
That body style will be popular forever if you ask me!
Yes, my wife and I got a compliment from the waitress at Sonic the other day, "NICE car!"
And a couple of weeks ago, I drove through a drive through pharmacy to drop off a prescription. The female pharmacist said, "Wait, these guys want to see your car." There were 2 other pharmacists in the store and strained their necks looking out the window...
I don't ever remember getting any emotional response at ANY pharmacy, EVER. Until now. lol
i have a 1980 that i drive a few times per week. i had a 4yr old boy tell his dad at the grocery store "he wanted one of those cool cars". it just starts at an early age and never leaves us lucky few. i will NEVER lose this love of corvettes.
Whenever I drive to one of my son's games or practices, I get a kick out of the way he yells "nice game" or "see ya" to teammates and opponents as we get to the car, so the other kids will look over and see him getting in. He's more proud than I am when his buddies say, "Cool car!" as we drive by.
I've owned my '82 for 6 years. I have so many stories about people's reaction to it when I'm out and about in it.
My favorite story concerns a young small town Cop that I got into a conversation with about the Vette. I was with my daughter (16 at the time) when a the Cop comes over to the Vette while we were stopped in town at the Courthouse. The Cop was probably in his mid 20's.
It was obvious he was blown away by the Vette, and started asking ton of questions. I popped the hood and we talked for a good 20 minutes about the Vette. My daughter was agasht and sunk down as low as she could in her seat.
As the Cop was driving away he gave me a thumbs up.
After 6 years I can assure you, it never gets old to see people rubber neck to look at your Vette as you drive by.
last weekend I needed a ride to pick up a car for work. I had the Vette out on the driveway and my wife offered to drop me off in the Vette which she has only driven once. The trip was about 20 minutes each way and when we got home she said she now knows the high I get when I'm out for a cruise. Sunny day, tops off, everything working=heaven on Earth. The C3 is definatley not a car for shy people.
Lot's of stories here too. I love the expletives I get when out driving. Never had so many people cuss at me as a GOOD thing. Their expressions when they first see and hear my car . . .
I went for my last ride of the year, last week, to fill up for the long winter ahead. It was a gorgeous day, and I left the hardtop in the garage. When I got to the gas station, I went inside to prepay. The cute young lady behind the counter said "That's my kind of car. I'd do anything for a ride in that." Soooooo, after filling up, we took a long ride on some back roads, and she wasn't kidding about what she said. I hope she's still working there when I get the '72 out of storage in the spring!

Corvettes are different than other cars.
To me they are at the top of the love, hate, got to have, don't want, girlfriend stealin, jelious and just down right ***** status cars!

i could not have said it better!!! However if some one asked if i would sell my car.... I would have to say no way!!!!!
it is too much fun to drive and to get the thumbs up and cool car comments.
Not to mention they are just fun to drive. I drove mine to Galveston island today, and drove along the beach. I like driving the C3 even more than the C4's that I used to own years ago. There is just something about the C3, both the way they look and the way they drive...
I drove the 75 vette (yvette, the other woman) to work a couple of Fridays ago. On the way home after I got off the highway after running 80+ for a while a cop pulls up behind me at the light. So the light turns green and I take off easy, cop on my tail. A few turns later and the cop is still following...I'm getting nervous now wondering wtf he wants with me and what did I do now! did he know I was speeding? I find its hard to drive the thing without making any noise. I get onto my street and signal to pull into the driveway and make the turn, damn if he doesnt turn in right behind me. So I shut it down at the top of the driveway so he doesnt see all the other stuff I have in the garage. I get out, he gets out and says hi! is that a 75 stingray? it sounds great! I bout fell over... seems he is looking to buy a C3 and just wanted to pick my brain. We ended up talking vetts for about 10 mins when his radio blasted and he had to go. The neighbors and the wife all came out to see what the fuss was about and it was pretty funny and we had a good time with it. ya never know who your gonna get compliments from when you drive a C3
I pulled the '73 into a gas station the other day and this kid maybe 6 or 7 said "Look Dad a real hotrod" I didn't have the heart to tell him it really wasn't a hotrod but did let him check it out and even sit in it for a minute. He had the biggest grin on his face and I loved giving him that thrill even if only for a couple of minutes. It was really cool
