Assuming you're stripping it to bare fibreglass, any of the brand name (PPG, Dupont etc) polyester high build primer is what you want.

If you are going down to bare glass I would shoot it with epoxy primer first before using a high build primer. SPI is one of the best epoxy primer. Do a search here on SPI primer and see what you come up with.

as roco71 mentioned spi is a good choice, because it has a 7 day recoat window. that is, you can respray it up to 7 days later without resanding- a plus for weekend warriors.

Epoxy primers are used primarily for their adhesion properties, in particular with bare metal. Either an etch or an epoxy has to be used before anything else goes on bare metal. On a fibreglass body adhesion to the high build polyesters is not an issue and that's why it's not used.

I used a brand called U-Pol below is a link to the exact product. I have no complaints.

http://www.u-pol.com/product-cat/30/...r-%2841%29.htm

It is a 2K high build primer. For the first coat I mixed in 2 parts of reducer to create a sealer. Then subsequent coats got 4:1. The data sheet has the different recipes for the mix.

Epoxies seal better than polyesters or urethanes (my considered opinion only) so I used it on my 1977 since the car was rust proofed when new and the body is pretty impregnated with the waxy shyte they sprayed back then. I washed twice a day with Dawn dish soap for a solid week after stripping but still got some fisheye in my first coat of epoxy. A good double wet coat before fill priming can provide some comfort margin if you think there's contaminated glass on your car.

Contaminates can come from the underneath side of the glass and cause "mystery" issues with the paint.

You're new here. Future questions might be better answered in the proper forum: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/paint-body-138/

Yes you are right good job. Some epoxy primers are an acid base for adhesion for bare metals. I don't know how bad your body is. But if I was you I go with evercoat slick sand it's a high build poly primer. Hope this helps Bill

If it has a lot of dips and uneven places I would worry about fixing them and getting the body straight before I was worried about primer. After I have my body work done I go with an epoxy primer to seal it up and then a 2k high build primer before paint.

I agree with somethings you said a high build primer will take care of the chips only. Not misaligned body parts. Good job Skip
