Hi every one my name is Jesse I just bought my first vette a lifetime dream I am only 25 and do not have allot of time or money for my project yet I am starting with small stuff u joints, tire rods, radio, ect my engine an trans are in great shape an no whine growl or fishy behavior from my rear diff so I don't need to remove or change anything on that end but my 79' L48 has some worn parts I have purchased from volunteer vette there deluxe major polyurethane front suspension rebuild kit and now want to know any heads up or look out advice but the seats are stuck upright
When I bought the car the seats folded forward and I could easily acess my rear compartment now I can't not at all it just doesn't work is there a button or lever that I am too stupid to see or are my seats just broken?
The seats on the 79-82 vettes had inertia locks on them so they wouldn't fold under heavy braking or sudden stops (like an accident). It sounds like yours have stuck in the locked position.
Do a search as I recall seeing this fairly often. I believe that you can find the mechanism and use a screw driver to release it. Sometimes it will just unstick itself and then you need to check the mechanism to see if it is broken or just dirty. Could also try spraying wd40 in it.
There is a better description on what to do on previous posts if you can search them.
Inside of the hindge there is a weight device that is incased in plastic. After 30+ years the plastic holder breaks apart and binds up the weight so the seat wont fold forward. I had to take the seat out of the car and took the hindge apart. This is not a servicable device so parts are not available. The end result was to remove the weight assembly altogeather.
