Default Etching in drivers side window?

Ok guys, a friend just called me about a vette he just bought, it appears that the PO had his name etched on the drivers side window top right. He wanted to know if there was anything that would remove the etched name. He is freaking out because he swears he never noticed it when he went to check car out........lol its not funny but you would think he would have at least rolled window up and noticed it

If it is just a decal then a heat gun will take it off.
If it is atcually etched, if you can feel it with your fingernail, replace the glass.
Not many other options.
Hope this helps.

If it is etched (why-O-why would you do this ) have him try to put a bit of light oil (baby oil, cooking oil something like that) on it. If it becomes transparent, he might be able to lessen the visibility of the etch by applying some type of clear coat (mask and lightly spray clear lacquer or even carefully apply some clear nail polish)
If you can feel it, the only way to remove it is with the window

Get a glass etching kit at a craft type store, mask a neat square around it and etch over the name, still noticeable but slightly less tacky

Could also get a nice "Bubba Was Here" sticker to hide it

Good luck to him

Theft deterrent. Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away etching names/VINs in all the glass was considered a theft deterrent. The reasoning was a thief would not want the car if he/she knew all the glass would have to be replaced.

Try calling a auto glass replacement company...they have a process to fix small cracks and stone chips, it might work, worth a try, in Canada it's called "Novus System".
Good Luck.

thanks guys i agree about why someone would do this......I went to look at it this afternoon and you can feel it in the window with your fingers. I will pass on all the info to him and to beat all the name on window is Mandy so having him change his name is not an option i dont think or I hope like hell not...........HAHAHAHA

Isn't there a company that comes out to your house and fixes window cracks/chips with some kind of special liquid. I know I have seen commercials about it. Maybe, it could help for this. Supposedly, you are not able to see the nick once they fill it in.

I checked on that some time back and it is only doable on the windshield and rear window(soft safety glass) But our side windows are tempered glass so it is not easily done.

There is a million products out there that will remove scratches in glass. My suggestion is to try one. I wouldn't replace the glass, you are opening up a can of worms. Try to remove it first.

How can you tell that? Tinted glass in C3s has been standard since the 1970 models.

Is he certain his existing glass is original? Check for LOF and the date code.
