L-88 hood question

The L-88 fresh air chamber is just bonded to the underside of the hood with adhesive. I guess some people put the L-88 hood on strictly for the look, but I wanted the look and functionality, so I installed the fresh air chamber as well. At first, I used the stock L-88 air cleaner assembly, but I found it lost 15 rwhp on the chassis dyno, so I came up with my own idea instead. I am using a 14" x 3" K&N filter mounted in the hood; they are very flexible, and it is easily manipulated into the air chamber. I used about 1" of the original style L-88 foam hood filter as a gasket to seal and hold it in place because the air chamber is about 1/2" to 3/4" too tall for a 3" filter.

Here is a closer picture, if you look closely you can see the piece I cut to fit in there on top of the K&N:

I changed to a custom 1 1/2" drop base air cleaner assembly, with a 1/2" aluminum bar I made as a hold down:

I am also using a 1" spacer under the throttle body to raise it up enough to have the air cleaner base seal meet the air chamber, which is something you have to do if you have a small block.
