Default stingray question?

are the c3 considered stingrays or did it end with the c2's? Just wondering, if so then what do you cal the c3's? I thought that I read in some book that 1967 was the last stingray.

Oh bother. Look, this could go on forever...but before you stir up this can of worms...you need to find out the difference between Sting Ray, and Stingray. Then come back and ask again.

But I will give you this. Find out which cars said Stingray on them out the factory.

63 through 67 Sting Ray
GM advertisements called the 68 a Stingray, but the car did not have it written on it any where, so some who think they know better than GM say it was not!! Does it really matter? YES!! So all C3's are Stingrays as well as C2's but GM spelled it Sting Ray on them. (C2's)

Many consider all C3s to be Stingrays. The term ‘mid-years’ came about during the 68-77 Stingray years to differentiate it from the previous 63-67.

Sting Ray refers to the body design like woman.
Some Corvette history & knowledge is helpful to ID a Stingray.
The new smaller body w/ I.R.S. was called a Sting Ray.

When it was redesigned for 68, it was called Sting Ray in the ads. It was a common custom trick to remove emblems. Emblems are an inexpensive way to differentiate a new model esp. the low volume (for GM) Corvette. The 68 was obviously new.

Stingray influences- tail on 63-67 coupes, BB hood on 65-66, wings extended from roof 68-77 & Stingray pointed nose & wing fenders.
Chassis essentially same from 63-77, body essentially same 68-77 & interior essentially same from 68-77.
There can be no question that 68-77 are Stingrays.

78- 25th anniversay of the Corvette- not Stingray. Many changes from body fastback glass to new interior so it's debatable. CORVETTE says it all anyway.

Wildboar: knowledge is power. Purchase some of the Corvette coffee table history books and begin learning about these cars.

Thanks Dose, sounds as though it is all personal opinion as to what "stingray" is. My experience is that most people just associate the c3 models with the term stingray. I have had people ask me if it was a real stingray, not sure what they meant by it at the time.

Actually, there isn't much opinion involved about whether a car has a "Stingray" badge or not.

My '58 doesn't say Stingray on it, so I'm pretty sure it's not.

I'm going to guess most people arguing that a car is something that it is not, are owners of those cars.
