Ouch...is that mold on the engine compartment? Very bad rust on the master cylinder suggests brakes need to be rebuilt all the way around.

change all fluids including gas. Check chassis for fluid leaks.

Don't be scared. Is this a car you currently own or just bought? The MC is no different than on any other GM car. As others have said, complete fluid change, swap the MC, test all functions of the car, wash it, and take it for a drive.

Quickest way is to search for a place that steam cleans engine compartments. Not pressure wash. I have had a few cars done in the past, steam removes the grime pretty well. Last time I had one steam cleaned was when I bought my 92 vette, almost 6 yrs ago, cost about $50. It was worth it. To keep it looking presentable i take a dedicated California duster to the engine bay. I hate dirty engines.

Go through the FUEL SYSTEM...from tank to the carb!!!

That is going to be your biggest problem...flush out all the old gas and crud
Especially with the ethanol in new gas...

Default Engine cleaning

My suggestion for the engine compartment is to carefully disassemble as much as you can and then start from the top down and clean by hand with dish detergent and low pressure rinsing.

I would also have the original MC rebuilt and sleeved. Save the original hardware and bag and tag in case you want to have the hardware restored at some point.

All fluids should be changed. Complete tune up and save ALL original parts regardless of condition.

Turn the engine over by hand. Have the carb professionally rekitted and cleaned.

Drain and drop the gas tank and scrub it clean. Flush all gas lines.

This is just for starters.

Looks like a really fun project

I would love to have a 14k mile original to start with like you do.
