Ok Ladies and Gentlemen - I am in the market for a 70's vette and lost a few chances due to timing. The last one I was looking at was neglected and due for some help but I lost it to someone else, now I have the chance to get a 77 that looks awesome and has many repairs completed - It has new paint /interior and weather striping new brakes and tires and many more new items - the engine is orginal but looks like it just came from the stealership. My question is this type of car priced reasonably at 8k. I know the correct answer is that it is reasonable at what you are willing to pay for it, but is this the going price??
No photos for guidance so this is all conjecture....if you were to purchase a project for say $2500 you would be very hard pressed to finance fresh paint and an interior for a grand total of $8k, never mind doing any mechanical repair. I say if your mechanic says it is sound, and you like it... you should think hard about putting it in your driveway.
Disclaimer... I can't see the car so take this advice with a grain of salt.
Dont know its value, but sounds like some $$$ was put into it. I looked at a 77 auto yesterday here in Jersey. It was a nom project, by the time I would be finished with it, and have it look and function real nice, it would have been cheaper to buy a finished one. Buy the best one you can afford. Rubber bumper sharks are a lot of fun and a great bang for the buck.
That is what I am thinking -- I work 6 days a wk most of the time and have no time to really work on anything just to get it running so, It does make since to buy one that I can just jump in and drive and do minor repairs to as they come due. I know it is a dumb question and I dont know about posting pics I have them in an email but not sure how to get them to the board. I know after this weekend I willhave more question for you guys and maybe change my name to bluvette77
just was looking for confirmation that it is easy to rack up over 5k in work on one real fast.
Do a search here for how to spot rust in these cars. Since the bodies never rust, lots of people forget that the frames, and in your 1977 even the floor pans are steel and prone to rot. It is waaaay easy to kill $5k trying to fix a Vette with rust issues so look closely under the shine before you buy!
send the pics to me I will post em for you dosenatl at gmail.com
I have been looking at Vettes for sale for over 5 months now...literally ALL I have been doing.
The price sounds pretty decent but would have to see pictures. It's crazy how much prices fluctuate along with quality of the cars. But 8k for a 77 with new pain and interior sounds pretty good...it's not black is it?

8k does not sound to bad, I paid 5k for mine and have another 5k into it. Check floor pans and frame. My frame was SOLID but floor pans rotted. It was harder to do the floor pans then pulling the body or the motor (in my opinion) floor pans can always be replaced but the frame is another story. 8k sounds pretty good to me all in all
Ok. Gents and ladies. Here is my situation - I lookeded at the 77 and it does look good I didn't see much rust on the frame or rthe window frame - the frame really looked good all of the car looked good, when driving I noticed it tried to follow the road depending on which way it was crowned. The only concern is the driver window has a small gap between it an the weatherstriping (is this adjustable?). I also found an 84 that is awesome from the local vette club. I am just having a hard time deciding what I want and looking for feedback. I am looking for a car to drive in all weather and I want it to look good and be a good car so any feedback from you guys that use your car as a driver will be appreciated
Figure out what Generation car you want...big differance in a '77 and an '84! They were giving cars away at the Mecum this weekend. I like the look of the blue '77 ...you will get more atttention in a C3 but if you want to pumo gas in peace get a C4 people will think you have a Firebird!
I do luv the look of the C3 - it is long and sensuous much like a beautiful woman (unless you live in AR where most are like my F250 work truck). I do believe I will go with the 77 I was just a little worried about the window since I will be driving it in all weather conditions ( and not just sunny days like it has been in only for awhile according to seller) , Think I am just trying to talk myself out of spending cash (been a penny pincher for too long).
Thanks for the responses to my questions – I just need to convince myself of what I am looking for.

You would be better off with the 84, after you wear it out you just throw it away and get another.
Let someone have the 77 that will take care of it.
With the use you are talking about a C5 would be in your best intrest, I love my C3 but not a daily all weather driver. C5's are getting very affordable...Old Cars need optimum conditions and to be respected because they are old like their owners!!

I had a 1984. Very happy when I sold it. If you want a C4 go up the ladder a bit more, 87 or newer. The 1984 was under-powered and problematic. Not to mention the tires alone will crush you when they go.
It's personal preference but a C3 is just an awesome looking machine and if you are handy you can do more to it and with it. Make it yours.
