Default Door Shim Question

How many shims were originally on the doors at the hinge end?

The front clip has been changed and i'm in the process of changing it back to the original.

thanks

Eoin

Anywhere from none to as many as five (maybe more) The original drivers door on my car had two on one hing and none on the other. I had to replace the door because the doors frame was rusted the replacement door took three shims on one hing and two on the other. My point being different doors will require a different amount shims. I bought my extra shims from a online auction site for a buck a piece. It will be trial and error to get the right combination and the shims do have a front and back to them. When you start out only use the bottom two bolts on both hings. Slots in the shims allow you add and remove shim without taking out the bolts. This is were you can put them in backwards two thing happen if they are in backwards. First you will not be able to adjust the door forward enough and second the top bolts will not go through (align with) the shim holes.
Best of luck

FWIW: changing the front clip would not necessarily affect the door hinge shims. If your doors align well now (rear, bottom, front, etc), open and close well, leave the shims as is and set your replacement front clip to the doors.

That is a very good point Mike. The hardest part is getting the top of the rear door set right and the bottom of the rear to match.
