Wow man that is pretty cool, great to hear that another vette will be saved.

Good luck with your journey, and yes progress report's would be cool as well.

As promised, here's some nostalgia pics, I talked with my uncle a little more today, got these pics, and a little more history.

This is my Dad painting it, they got it around 70 as a repo from Florida, and it needed soem work. They fixed her up real nice, I have a feeling the work they did to fix 2 years of neglect, is a little easier than what I have in store:

And what the heck is this for?

love that hitch---maybe he had a small rowboat and trailer!

I definitely will when I start taking it apart. This is kind of an intro thread, and I'm gathering information on what I'm up against.

Something else you should know, look along the bottom chrome edge on the grill. If there are no screw holes and studs sticking out on the back side for mounting they are early to mid 70 only grills and very desirable for the 70 owners if they're in decent condition. You could post them for sale here on the forum to fund the money for brand new grills for yours and then some.

If they do have the mounting holes they would be correct for late 70-72. Oh yes, and I'm not sure but if they have screw hole and no boss for the fiber optic light I think that's 72 only.

Confused yet?
Yep

But thanks, I'll look into that, great stuff to know.

Default Maybe this will help.

68/69 grill. There might be slight variables in these too which I am unaware of.

Early to mid 70 only grill.

Late 70 to 72 grill. This picture is actually 72 only because it's lacking the fiber optic hole. Late 70 to 71 will be the same with the screw holes and fiber optic hole.

If I go on explaining too much I know I'll get called out on something because I don't know everything. Just enough to be dangerous. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of us that have taken these cars apart and put them back together, so anything you will have for questions can be answered by someone.

As others have said, the birdcage can be the biggest issue with these cars. Frames yes can rust, but those are easier to get at once the body is off, the birdcage is another thing as the fiberglass has to be removed in most cases. Just hope yours has minimal bird cage rust issues.

I have a 69 very similar yet different in some ways to the 68. I'm in SE WI. so probably not that far away and did a 5 year body off rebuild. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. I also have a friend who is currently doing a body off 68 coupe locally here in Milwaukee.

Qtlow, I love the metal fin style grille on the 68, but no vendor makes repro, just the black plastic ones. I know there are other 68 owners like bkvette and I that are looking for NOS or used and not abused.
