Coming up on one year since buying my 69. I have the history on the car dating back to the 2nd owner who purchased in 1972. Car was within family from 72 until I bought in 2011, and only saw about 20k miles during that time. Knowing the car has been a garage queen for 40 years, I am wondering what condition the tank sticker would be in.. What is the easiest way for me to find out without dropping the tank?

Hi, take off the gas door assembly (a couple of screws), then carefully peel back the rubber boot. Shine a good flashlight around and you should be able to see it. Good luck!
I got mine ('70) out a few months ago...dropped the tank and in the process replaced the rubber lines from the tank to the chassis lines. I honestly don't see how I could have removed it intact without getting the tank out of the car; and even then it didn't come off the tank very easily. I photographed it in place before I pulled it off then 'laminated' it immediately with 2" wide clear tape...
