Default New HID Headlights

Greetings Fellow C3ers,

I've just upgraded my night vision capability to ensure I can see how fast I'm going

Gone are the original "yellow" headlamps and replaced with new HID (High-intensity discharge) lamps.

The difference is quite amazing.

The HID in the OFF position in my garage:

Intense white light when ON

And a close up

Gone is the yellow and in with brilliant white. A quick night run was "eye opening" in that road signs were visible significantly further and the pure white light certainly makes it easy on the eye.

I was unnecessarily concerned about the impact to oncoming motorists but even on some narrow forest stretches of road, I did not receive and "flashes".

Highly recommended

I purchased two kits a H1 and a H4 from an auto spares wholesaler. The brand is Revolution but no doubt there will be many other suppliers / brands out there.

I found the 35w to be more than sufficient for the designated task.

That's the next task. I intend to "plug into" the parking light orifice and that "should" then work.

Did you have to modify anything to get the lights to work? (light housing, make room for the equipment, etc)

I am new to corvettes, what are the fiber optics used for?

The lamps are standard fittings so no changes / problems there.

The ballast (one for each lamp) was glued with silastic to the lower radiator support panel. I had to drill a 1 13/16 hole in the radiator support panel (driver's side) to pass through the main relay and earth & power fittings. I'm drawing power direct from the rear of the alternator.

You'll need a handful of cable ties to ensure it's a neat finish.

Allow 90 minutes for the complete installation.

The fiber optics collect the light at the source and display on/off status inside the vehicle.

Fiber optics on the lights where offered on 68 thru late 71 vettes. They ran from the headlights, brake lights, license plate light and the turn signals to the console. At night when you had your lights on they lit up on the console when you where using them. The design was ment for safety to let you know if a tail light or blinker light bulb was burnt out or just not working.
Remember this was during all the NASA/Apollo space missions and a lot of NASA hub bub was being introduced on cars at that time. Including the Astro ventailation on the windows on the vettes at that time but thats another complete different story.

A valid article when only the globes are replaced.

A moot point in this instance as this was NOT a replacement of the H1 and H4 globes only, but a complete replacement of lamps specifically designed to accommodate HID globes.
