Can these chargers be hooked up to the alternator so as i dont have to keep the cubby hole door proped up? thanks , jeff
Jeff,
Yes, because the battery doesn't really care where it gets the current from, as long as your wiring and battery terminals are in good condition. Or, you could permanently wire a Granite Digital "Smart cable" to your battery and plug the charger into that.
I have been using a trickle charger for the past 5 winter's, it has a feature that call's itself FLOAT MODE MONITORING
I just hook it up every fall and forget about it
Everything is automatically done.
Keep's my battery fully charged, then turn's itself into monitoring mode.
when the charge drop's off the charger will come on automatically and restore a full charge.
I have never had an issue ever come spring time,
Cost was about 40 buck's if i remember.
There are many great charger's out there just do a little research and see what suit's your need's.
thanks John...so i could power up the red alternator wire and and attach the ground to ground and the granite will function as if i were attached to the batter terminals?...i looked that device up on google looks like a nice bit of engineering....happy new years to all jeff

Could you all share links to ones that you suggest?
I am finding a large range of them, but there are so many options I am not sure what is good. For example, some operate at different amps, some are designed for small batteries and large, many seem similar but I am unfamiliar with brands so I don't know which are good quality, etc.

Stingray,
Thirteen months ago, I bought a 50 Watt Granite #1702 and took it back to Australia and showed it to my friends in the Chevrolet Car Club, www.chevcarclubvic.org.au, and this is what I use.
However, there is a less expensive one, the 25 Watt Power Bar #4055, that will do the job and still give you a digital readout of the battery's voltage.
There is also a Battery Saver/Maintainer #3015, but it has no digital readout. The least expensive would probably be the #2365 and I believe that this is one of Granite's biggest sellers.
Ring Granite on 888-819-2190 and Ken or Bob will be able to answer any of your questions.
