Default Question about 1977 steering wheel...

Hello C3,

First post here. Considering the purchase of a 1977 Corvette.

Does anyone make a steering wheel like the stock one in the '77 but with a thicker rim?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Didn't like my skinny 73 wheel either. I forget who I bought mine from but Ecklers, Covette Central and all the other Corvette sites have replacement wheels.

The stock steering wheel on a '77 is pretty thick, as thick as they get on a C3! The earlier ones from a few years before that were very thin. Many people change to the thicker type of the mid '70's. Are you sure the one you were looking at was stock. Go online to Corvette America's site , they have pictures of the different years wheels.

Yes, yours may not be stock.

Grant makes some Corvette steering wheels w/ leather 791 or wood 794 that are a direct bolt on.

I put the Grant black leather one on my Corvette a long time ago. It has polished slotted spokes & a very shallow dish which moves it closer to the dash. Nice, direct bolt on about 13 1/2" & back of the st. wh. is about 1/2" up from the mounting. Ideal.

Thanks, most definitely it is a stock '77 wheel. Very familiar with the thin spoke type steering wheels. Had a black thin spoke in my 1969 Hard top pace car. Just wondering if some manufacturer is doing a wheel that looks like the '77 but thicker. Thanks for all of the replies.

South Park rules.

If you're looking for something special in a leather wrapped wheel, Chuck Pelton is a Forum member and does renovated wheels and other leather work. Contact him. I've been happy in my dealings with him.

Stock wheel with Tilt/Tele. Standard column cars got left over 76 Vega four spoke wheels. Only about 3000 or so of those.
