I put in a new trans mount last week because mine was original and had bottomed out. I could feel the trans moving around a bit with my hand on the shifter as I gave the car gas.
While I was greasing up my shift linkage...I saw that it had two setting for the short and long throw. I always had it on the long throw setting, but decided to switch it to the short throw.
I assume that it has been set on the long throw since new as it is really taking some force now to get it into gear while driving.
Should this improve as I drive it a bit more? Will it become easier to shift?

the moving to the short throw position reduces leverage on the linkage so more effort is required and that should not change. Is the problem finding the gear or just pushing it into the gear. If the problem is finding the gear, you may have to adjust the shifters neutral position with the appropriate gauge/shim.
