A couple more......
The white lines are NOT crooked cuts, it is the light shining through the glass where I sanded the gel coat off.
From the top front:
From the top rear looking at the extension, it is really looking great and flowing good, now to sand, glue on, float out with glass and start floating with thin Bondo.
Ask me how popular I am for storing car parts in 2 out of 5 bedrooms?
I still hear about the one time that I stored my air cleaner in the living room IN A BOX UNDER THE COUCH! To hear it now, the entire drive train was in the middle of the floor spewing oil.

Tell me about it...
I "volunteered" to vacuum the living room so no one would notice the rocker panel covers under the sofa.

We should convince 81Pilot to join us in the "OBX Sidepipe Club."
I enjoy reading your car thread. Keep it up!
Which Body filler did you use to float out the edges of the scoop?
I am leaning toward the Evercoat Rage Gold, easy sanding and is good for glass and SMC glass.

I used Evercoat Extreme. I agree it is expensive. Floating on? During application, I noticed little difference with much cheaper Bondo. The big improvement is almost no pin-holes. I recommend a thin layer over any exposed fiberglass. Fiberglass is filled with small pin-holes that are hard to see but show up after primer. You can just sand the gelcoat. What are you going to do with the raw fiberglass under the hood?
Did you ever test fit the hood on your car? Do you have any pics? How does that extension look compared to other long L-88 hoods?
My car is a '72 that had a long hood and no wiper door. Bubba-d!
I'm reinstalling the wiper door assembly and grill (very hard to fit it) and my new short L-88 hood. The wiper door parts (including all the small parts) cost about $1,500. I really want a wiper door.
The hood had been delayed because I've spent two weekends getting the wiper door to fit right. Finished that today. It matters because the wiper door fit determines how much fiberglass to remove in the back to get the gap perfect.

I test fit it before this point, I am going to refit it and shim and get it as good as I can and then use a little filler to fix a couple of low spots.
I am not sure what my plan is on the under side. I can just use the filler to finish the underside. I want it to look good as well. Any suggestions? Lengthwise it is now a tad over 53 inches long and looks right, I am glad I lengthened it. I will shoot a pic tomorrow with it on the car.
Your spot on with the wiper door, on the cars that came with the short hood need it, you might as well do it right, sometimes it costs more, but the end result will be nice.
filler definition: A high dollar substance that you use too much of and then proceed to sand most of it back off, then you repeat as many times as neccessary.
I always use too much to begin with.
I am done with the Rage filler on the top, I am in the process of using 2 part X glaze to get it perfect (as I can) then I will shoot the 2K primer and block sand some more, whew, my arms get tired, but it is looking good. I will upload a few pics tonight, it is coming together though. I think on the bottom, I will just sand the glass and put a layer of X glaze on it, I not concerned as much on the back about it being perfectly flat, it is aweful close now. Then just prime and shoot black on the back. Decided against a color change on the car this year, going to paint to match the hood to the car, then paint the center of the scoop with the same Dark Bronze as the bottom of the car, should be nice looking and good for now.
Here is where I am at. I took the weekend off from it, will hit it after work this week, should have it fitted this week and shoot primer next weekend.
OK here is the latest of the finished underside. I am about to prime the top and it is going very well. I have had back issues and had to curtail some of the work, but I am back at it.
