Decided to see what my birdcage really looks like. Took the right side apart. I was very happy with what I saw. Took a few shots in the event I ever have to sell the car. If I get energetic I will pull the left side apart. Took the left kick panel off and # 2 looked like the right side. Didn't pull the cluster got lazy. Seems like I am in good shape.
Looks good so far. The most common problem areas which you will find from the inside are the #2 mounts, windshield header and posts. Did you pull the trim from the header? Remove the visors? This is where I found an unpleasant surprise, mainly the top left corner where water had pooled inside the header. Had to have the header and top corners replaced.
Other common problem areas are at the bottom corners of the windshield frame. Found behind the tips of the fenders/hood surround. The factory packs this area with caulk. The caulk dries out leaving pockets where water and debris collect, rusting the framework. You'll need to dig out all the caulk to be sure it's really solid.
