Default door ajar disconnect

Is there a way to easily disconnect the door ajar light without taking the bezel off? Mine stays on and I don't want to try and fix it.

No easy way.

In a Have To case, it is probably easier to attempt to disconnect the wiring at the switches.

If the light is staying on, are you switches good?

A piece of black tape over the lens is the easiest fix I can think of. The PO of my car used it for years on all the annoying red lights, threw a roll of it in for free when I bought it.

The PO also thought the 'oil pressure' gauge was an 'oil quantity' gauge. Saw nothing wrong with 5 psi at 70 mph until...............

Well the tape would work but........I have been restoring this car for the last three months, new brakes, rebuilt carb, new fuel pump, new plugs and wires, replaced old stereo, new tires, new power steering pump and I'm tired of working on it! The door ajar is no big deal so I don't want to start searching for what's wrong and spend more money! Just want to drive it and enjoy. Although when I see the gas guage go down as fast as it does this will be a once in awhile car!

Check your AIM. Each door jamb has a switch in the lower rear corner for the ajar switches. Wiring for the switches routes under the carpet along the seat support to each side.

Just remove the switches, heat shrink the wire ends, and get some rubber grommets to plug the holes. It was a silly system to begin with. Your door is either closed or not. Just look....

The door ajar light is on because the left or right door jamb switch is either broken in a way that leave the switch open OR more likely, you are just missing a little piece of square rubber that sticks to the door and depresses the switch when the door closes. You can get these little rubber sticky square at home depot or lowes and just stick them in place to fix the issue.

If the squares are in place and the switch is the issue, you will find an access panel in each wheel well adjacent to the switch. Remove 4 nuts and you'll be able to reach the wire as you un bolt the switch to assess why it's not working.

Does this help?

Then taking the key out of the ignition is technically the easiest fix.
Disconnecting the battery would be 2nd.
Wearing an eye patch over your right eye would be third.

And once we are down with all the bubba like half butt ways to avoid correcting a simple fix, he can just read the valid responses supplied here.

Where do I obtain grommets for the door jambs (passenger and driver doors)?

This thread is three years old. What type of grommets do you want?

They mean rubber plugs, to plug up the door-ajar switch holes, Mike. Lou.
