Default anyone dismantled these

i bought a set of the full wheel covers for my 71 a couple years ago and i want to take them apart and clean them up for installation next season. anyone accomplished this feat before. the bolts on the back are a lil rusted and i don't want to twist them off trying to remove them.. any ideas?????

I've not dealt with the wheel covers your refering to but I have dealt with rusted bolts. Spray and or soak with PB Blaster or liquid wrench, for several days if need be.

I've done it a couple of times.

That could still happen. Use thread solvent and go slowly. I like using a nut driver on these.

or liberally soak `em in WD-40 overnight. I just got a set as well from a forum member- they're in pretty good shape, but I'll tken them apart to clean and frefinish as necessary.

They're sitting on the work bench soaking as I write . . .

Mask the tops of the spokes, then shoot semi flat black. Tedius and time consuming.

Shoot the spokes, then polish the black paint off the tops of the spokes. Quicker.

I experimented with shooting the spoke basket from the rear in an attempt to keep the black off the tops of the spokes. I did not like what I got.

gotcha on the black part of the fins, thanks.... now how about the silver grey at the top of the fins, what kinda color paint is that.
