82CE 8 Track
Thanks!
For 81 & 82, the standard radio was an AM/FM stereo radio, with a straight analog dial. All optional 81-82 radios were what Chevrolet called ETR (Electronically Tuned Radio) radios. The ETR replaced the analog dial with a digital face that showed the time and radio station digitally.
On the ETR 8-track radio, the digital dial is at the top of the radio face and the tape door is at the bottom. Earlier analog GM 8-track radios have the tape slot hidden behind the analog dial. On the right center front of the 81-82 tape door, it says "Stereo Eight" in script. Between the digital face and the tape door, is a row of 4 small chrome preset station buttons, and 2 slightly larger "Scan" & "Seek" buttons.
The ETR cassette radios, as well as the CB radios, have separate Bass and Treble sliders on the upper right front of the radio face. 81 ETR 8-track radios didn't use the Bass and Treble sliders, but instead had a "GM Delco" logo in this area of the dial. I don't think the 82 ETR 8-track had the Bass & Treble sliders either.
The digital ETR radios weren't used by any other Chevrolet line in 81, and probably not in 82, but they were used in some of the other higher end GM vehicles, such as Cadillac Buick and Olds.
I don't have any pictures of the 82 ETR 8-track, but below are pictures of the 81 radio. The illustration is from the owners manual, and gives you a good idea of the difference between the standard AM/FM radio, and the ETR digital 8-track radio. The ***** shown on the 8-track in the owners manual illustration are actually Cadillac *****. The Corvette ETR ***** are the same as those shown on the AM/FM radio. The second picture is of an ETR 8-track radio, from the 1981 Chevrolet Dealers Album.
