Whenever I put the original PO2's on my '72 in place of the trim rings and center caps, I get all kinds of attention. People want to know what they are because they've never seen them and they think they look cool.
In 38 years of owning my '72, I've never hit my shin on one, either. That must take some real coordination.
As far as installing them, I don't use a rubber mallet. Too much chance of denting the rim. Instead, use the "heel" of your hand and work around the outer edge until it's seated on the rim. Good luck!

Someone obviously felt that they were a defining mark.
I have a set - but for now I'm using the center-cap / trim-ring thingie.
