Default Canadian buying resoration parts

Being a Canadian, where might be the popular place to buy parts to restore a 1969 BB? I would like to avoid the extra charges at the boarder when companies use UPS.

Check in the Canadian Section of the forum, there are a handful of sources around that people have had luck / bad luck with. There are several threads if you do a search

Eckler's in Florida. https://www.ecklerscorvette.com/

Prices are competitive and they charge taxes, customs, duties when ordered, so when shipped, the courier just drops it off at your door, no brokerage fees.

Returns are no problem either, I had a defective part, returned it and they shipped a replacement.

I live 2 hours from a border crossing, i get all my US ordered stuff shipped to a package store 15 min from there, drive over and bring it back myself. No brokerage fees, and most cases vendors will ship free inside the USA.

Sometimes it's easier to pay a bit more and get parts from a Cdn dealer. I've bought from Corvette Depot several times. If a part is not listed on their site call them and see if they can get it. With a 33% upcharge for dollar difference, it's currently not that attractive to buy from the US, imo. If the part can't be shipped via USPS, you really get gouged by UPS and Fedex.

Edit: Blair Moland just outside of Bridgewater has lots of used vette parts. I don't think he has a website so use google to get a phone # if interested.

That 33% is reflected in the Canadian price here as well, have to shop around.

I'm looking for an L-88 hood for my '76. Crazy shipping fees for big items like that whether or not it's coming from Canada or the US. I'll be in the US in October with my truck so I may just wait and pick one up there.

I pick up @ Curtiss Farm & Auto on 1st Ave. Will have to stop @ Cousins for a quick bite before heading back across the line. Was not aware of the car show held in June - will have to check it out this year.

Cheers, BK3

Best if you can get it shipped usps…… most sellers don't want to fill out the forms for customs though.
Otherwise ups will rape you going across the border.
I feel your pain!

Thanks so much for the reply's and for not slamming me for not searching the forum first. I am also restoring a 1972 Opel GT. Over the winter i have received 5 shipments from OpelGT Source from California USPS without a problem and with very reasonable shipping costs.Went from a 1.9L to a 2L engine, bigger valves and head work on the Opel. The Vette, from a worn out 427 with smog heads to a 435 with correct heads. Cann't wait to get them both back on the road and take a picture of the side by side!! Ecklers do ship USPS and are the most reasonable with shipping with the places I checked.
This is a great forum with a lot of information and very intelligent people that are willing to help others out!!
Thanks, Dwight

Another thing to watch for is the smaller re-seller sources. I recently purchased from one reputable source and they drop-shipped from corvette america to my house.... via UPS. $56 "brokerage fee" on a $60 part that I already paid $28 shipping on... grrrrr

You are not alone, brother. Had that happen more then a few times to me. I hate UPS for that reason. I always request US sellers to send via USPS to Canada. Most have no problems doing so.

Hence my comment about buying from Cdn dealers and paying a bit more to avoid those possible extra shipping charges.
