Default Installing new horns?

One of the horns on my 82 is not working so I bought new horns from Corvette Central but unfortunately the brackets don't have threads for the factory screw. So I put a bolt through the hole with a nut on the other side along with the ground wire. They don't work now?? I did use a stainless bolt and nut, could that be it? Or would that matter?? By the way what a pita it is to get too.

Bolt and nut should be fine. Tight?
Is there a seperate ground wire on the new horns?

No they are just like original. Ground wire comes from harness with eye hook, bolt goes through that and that is what grounds it. So being stainless doesn't make a difference??

Shouldn't.
Put the eyelet UNDER THE NUT directly against the metal framework. Maybe scuff the paint. A star washer would be a plus.
You'd think one of the two would work.
Sure the problem is the horns?

Not relay, fuse((stop/hazard), or contacts under the horn button?

Maybe even put the eyelet between the horn bracket and the framework.

Ya it was the horn, the driver's side was working the other side wasn't so I just decided to replace them both. I will try the eyelet under the bracket against the framework.

Just be sure the eyelet is contacting bare steel.

I'm about to give up... I took them off and ground off the paint to bare steel on the brackets and remounted them. I got the pass. side to work but still the driver's still don't blow. So now I'm leaning the horn is defective. Is there a way I can take it out and test it??

Just hook it straight to a battery. Pos and Neg.

Or swap the two horns.

Take the driver's one, wire positive wire from terminal on horn to positive lug on a battery.

clamp wire to ground nut, then tap wire against negative lug on the battery.

This is correct, as the horn in question is a universal fit horn. They do not resemble the original horns.

Ya that's fine, I used a bolt/nut combo and was actually easier to install that way. They sound good Eventually I'm gonna send off the original horns to be rebuilt..
