Default Purchase opionion Please

First time poster. I've grown up with my grandfather owning a 78 yellow vette. I have recently fallen into an oppurtunity to buy one. Its a 78 vette. Its painted (poorly finished) red while the original color was the dark blue. It still has the dark blue interior which is showing signs of daily driven wear. the car has roughly 100K miles on it.It has cracked glass t-tops. Owner says someone tried to break in through one, and he dropped the other. I can pick it up for 1500 but i'm thinking more along the lines of 1000-1200 what do yall think. It doesn't run at the moment the gentleman is in the process of replacing the waterpump. Glad I found the forums though either way i'll be sticking around just to admire the vettes.

If you can drive it at all after the water pump is installed anywhere between 1000 and 1500 is OK. Look at the car closely... inspect the frame and windshield/door post areas for rust and if they're solid it's a fine project. A quick search here will show you where to look.

The next time you go to look at it make a written list of what it needs to become a nice car, then spend sometime looking up those parts from our supporting vendors to get an idea of how much $ is required to get the car as you want it. Then double your estimate(really!!!!) and decide if the car is still a good deal for you.

Thanks markids, I'll be doing my search momentarily. I love the C3 so i'll be happy just to have one the goes down the road safely. I completely understand the double the estimate, I'm into car repair and welding for income. But thanks again, glad to see this is a helpful forum and not a forum of a bunch of chuck-wagons.

Welcome aboard, and if there are more questions just ask. If you do buy it, pics are a great way to introduce yourself, and get input from other non-chuck-wagon types who hang out here as well.

Give him the $1500; it's probably worth that in parts.
