Looking at purchasing a 76 but needs a little interior tlc. Could someone let me know the cost and work involved to replace the pieces around the windshield? Also what could have caused this? Do you think it could be leaky windshield?

Thanks!

This looks more like someone trying to remove the trim without knowing how to do it. Once you remove the trim though it would be a good idea to look for leaks. C3's do leak on occasion - like when they get wet!

And where there is a leak, there is rust. I'd be more concerned about the metal frame around the windshield and birdcage. New repro pads are $75 each - that's a small expense for cosmetics. Inspect the metal, as that is where the spending money is hidden.

Hoping it would be a cheap fix. I am still contemplating whether or not I am going to go look at it. It is a few hours away.

looks more to me like the a pillar trim spent a lot of time in the sun and dried out, THEN perhaps someone tried to remove it and it just crumbled. it's also very possible that it just gave up, shrunk and deteriorated from constant exposure to the sun and a closed, super hot interior. remember that in the summer in the sun, the interior heat levels can be as much as 20-35 degrees above the outside temperatures.
