Has anyone here on the forum heard of a "buying" service that operates under the name of "Consignment4U" ? I was looking at a 1971 Chevrolet C/10 4x4 in the Minneapolis section of Craigslist,e-mailed the address for more info and recieved a return e-mail from the owner(?).He said he needs the money from the sale to fund his daughters wedding,he's out of town for a week or so,the consignment compant has the vehicle,Can't get a phone number to call them........goes on and on.Can't run fast enough, says I can make the deal thru the consignment company, make payment and if I'm not satisfied after delivery I would be refunded the monies paid.Just asking. Trucks listed for $5000.00,about half of what these are selling for in very good condition. JMS71VETTE
I was searching for info about this outfit and found this thread. There is a 36' Sailboat on craigslist for a remarkably low price. Same story, my daughter is getting married, need the money asap. Boat appears to be in Mexico and he'll ship it up here as part of sale price. No coincidence here, probably a pretty sophisticated scam
Scam all the way. I ran into a similar thing while I had two separate listings for Harleys I was selling. I was contacted by the same person on each one but with a different story. They wanted me to ship the bikes so they would be there for some special engagement. They agreed to send a bank draft before I shipped it. Problem is that I later found they were making counterfiet drafts that couldn't be checked until they went through some process at the bank. One was a sons graduation and the other was to meet a deadline to participate in some European road trip. They get very creative and try to draw you in with appealing prices. Just remember if it appears too good to be true, it probably is.
Run Forrest, run! It is a scam. He doesn't own the truck. If he has pictures he probably "borrowed" them from another ad. Once he gets your money - he is gone and you will not have a truck!
This is a very similar scam to what has been going on here and always with Craigslist.
